Conditions & Diagnosis
Myelopathy is a condition where there is pressure on the spinal cord usually because of a narrowing of the central canal. Referred to as “spinal canal stenosis”. Sometimes there are changes in the cord called myelopathic changes which indicate the severity of the problem. The symptoms are neck pain, arm pain and weakness and increased reflexes in the lower limbs. It is sometimes associated with changes in bladder and bowel control and is a condition which requires immediate assessment and treatment.
The cord changes of myelopathy may improve with surgery.
