He is currently using the latest spinal navigation technology at Wollongong Private Hospital for complex spinal surgery. This allows him to map out the exact place to insert the pedicle screws into a patient’s spine and takes a lot of the guesswork out of it making the operation much safer for the patient. Dr Moloney previously performed the same types of operations, however, with this newer technique it means that he can be confident about placing screws in a patient’s spine further up the spine where the pedicles decrease in size and it gets a lot trickier. This exciting technology is making life easier for the surgeons and decreasing the chance of complications later on for the patient which is great for everyone.
