Lumbar Sympathetic Block

This is an equivalent procedure that can be used to treat pain in the lower limb, particularly chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS). It may also be helpful to treat lower limb pain due to severe peripheral vascular disease that is not suitable for surgery. It involves inserting a needle adjacent to the spine in the upper lumbar region to inject cortisone and local anaesthetic around the lumbar sympathetic nerves.

It is a day procedure in hospital, under sedation and x-ray guidance.
